You mean desktop = PC??
ok, check your internet connections and check whether you activated the network or not.
If the problem still presist, post a reply.

Check if your desktop have wireless router in it ... If not use LAN cable ... Should state more detailed ... Your laptop is most probably running wireless. And if it wasn't the Wireless nor LAN problem, it probably caused by what warten said, you didn't enable your connections. For XP, go to Control Panel, Network Connection and enable whatever method you're using. Remember, you can't run wireless and LAN in the same time.
